The birth of this second son of his parents was in 1855.  He stayed with his father in Pandakasala even after his marriage.. Since his uncle Kochu Kuruvilla Mathai died and had only a daughter, Pothen moved to Chande veedu. His life partner, Claramma was a very able lady and she looked after the business in the shop building facing the road  in the Chande veedu. In those days it was very common that ladies engaged in such business. Claramma was a very talented lady who used to give narration of Tamil book Thembavani in Malayalam.  She  even excelled in this better than other  males. She also could read ‘Pana’ fluently in good tune.

Pothen Vakkil  learned law after marriage and used to go to court regularly . This was the main occupation of Pothen . His aim was to impart good education to his children and so taught them English lessons. His children excelled in arts as well. Only one son could join college and during the course of the studies, he decided to go for priesthood . He became a priest while his father Pothen was alive.

Pothen, a simple man had the mind of a child and he used to behave like a child and used to crack jokes and spend time with children. He died in 1941.
