Born as the eldest son of Kochandy Vareeth in his second marriage. He was a broad minded, knowledge person  who had  modern thinking and ability to implement progressive ideas. He had high ranking in society. Knowing the boy’s abilities, his father took care to impart the best education to the child. Apart from Malayalam and tamil, he was taught English language also. He graduated in Law from Trivandrum and practiced in Thiruvalla court as there was no civil court in Trivandrum. Soon Magistrate court and Civil court were established in Changanacherry and he started practicing here. Due to diabetism , he could not practice long.

Only after his marriage, he started Law studies .He married Annamma  from Vazhapally Edanadu family where there were only two daughters. His wife’s father gave him a property and house  in Vattapally as his daughter’s share. Kuruvilla renovated the house and started his family life there. This house became known as Olassayil Edanadu. Later this house became a venue for public discussions and political leaders visit. Many important decisions were taken in this house. Kuruvilla also had his Advocate’s office located  in this house.

He wanted to change the conventional thinking of child growth, education. He wanted children to have modern thinking and career development—so he sent his children outside Kerala for education.  His diabetic disease became a hindrance to his eldest son Joseph’s education and so Joseph took up the responsibility of agriculture and looking after his sick father. The second son Varghese was then doing his final in Honors. When he returned Kuruvilla was in his sinking stage. he then received a telegram that his son passed Honors. This was a great moment of joy and he died very soon. His youngest son died at an young age while he was a seminary student  and  this was always an unforgetable event in his life.

Dduring his time Changanacherry was not as what we see now. There were hardly any roads ,Whatever roads were there during that time were all mud roads. There were no street lights.Travelkling was really difficult, At nights artificial light was created by burning dry coconut tree leaves. There was no arrangement to remove waste on road sides. The people lived in  very closely built few houses in Chanda and Vattapally areas.  For the welfare of the locals, the government formed "Town Improvement committee" (later known to be Muncipality)and under  the leadership of Kuruvilla, lot of improvements were done. Many important  persons from all religions  co-operated in this task and one among them was Mannathu Padbhanabhan. . Mannathu Padbhanabhan felicitated Kuruvilla's son OC Varghese on the marriage reception and after twenty five Kuruvilla had the luck of Mannathu Padbhanabhan felicitating  Kuruvilla's grandson  Joseph also  (OC Varghese's son) on his marriage reception.

During those days there was no place for holding meetings and discussions for the town administration. As a result of Kuruvilla's enthusiasm to solve this issue, a building by name "Edward Memorial Town Hall"built in memory of British emperor was located  at the center of  eastern side  of the present muncipal stadium. This was there for about 75 years till it was demolished. This building was utilised for holding meetings, discussions, assembly and there was a library and reading room here. The deed of this"Edward Memorial Town Hall"  was registered in the name of Varghese Kuruvilla and Mgr.Cyriac Kandankerry. This shows the amount of confidence the public had in Kuruvilla.Later his son OC Varghese surrendered this  to Town Committee.

Kuruviila was a diabetic patient and his health deteriorated and finally he was called by God and left this world in 1916.
