Kuruvilla Kochukuruvilla  being the youngest son of Pothen Kuruvilla lived in the Tharavad (the family house) of Olassa. He continued the money lending business of his father. Major portion of the savings and property of his father came to his possession.

During AD 1843 the then King of Travancore sent two ‘Muthukuda’ through two Brahmins for offering to the Thodupuzha temple. When the Brahmins reached Changanacherry, they thought of staying that night in some Brahmin’s house near Kavil temple. While they were walking through foot path on the side of the church, a lunatic person suddenly appeared and the Brahmins got frightened.

They reported the matter to the Tehsildar. The Tehsildar Neelakhanda Pillai, a Hindu reported to the police that the Brahmins were abused by some Christians. Hence few Christians of the locality were arrested by the police and kept in jail.

Kuruvilla Kochukuruvilla along with his friend Kadanthottu Ouseph went to Kottayam and appealed to an English official who came for inspection. Immediately the English official reported the matter to the higher authorities and they permitted him to enquire the matter.

As a result the Tehsildar, Neelkhanda Pillai got frightened and resigned the post and absconded. The then kings were jest but the officials like Neelkhanda Pillai were taking law into their lands.
