He was born in 1866. Mikhael Devasia was a  very energetic person. He decided to remain as a bachelor in order to serve his family. He stood firm on his decisions and his aim was in the welfare of his family. This is evident in his Will.

When his elder brother  Mikhael Varghese expired at his younger age, Mikhael Devasia took over his family’s responsibility. He provided good education for   Mikhael Varghese’s son OG Michael and as a result, he got a good job in Munciff court. When OG Michael died , leaving his wife and seven children alone,  Mikhael Devasia shouldered the responsibility of looking after these children. He educated them and even arranged their marriage. He shared all his wealth and twelve acres of land with them. Simultaneously he looked after his sisters also.

He was an entrepreneur. Initially, he started the textile business later switched on to  Marijuana and  Opium with proper Govt Licence and had three shops in Changanacherry. From this business, he earned a good profit and he himself managed his agricultural land. He disposed of his nine acres of land and his parental house at Pandakasala Kadav, Changanacherry. It seems that he had huge debts to be cleared for the family. In those days Olassa family was famous for providing hereditary treatment to the sick. He was practising in this field following a Tamil manual for treatment. In due course, this manual got lost and was beyond recovery.

He was a social worker too.  The present Changanacherry Municipality originated as “Town improvement committee”. He was a member of this committee and also in the Municipal council which was later formed. Bharath  Kesari Mannathu Padmanabhan was coeval in this council. He was a permanent member of church committees and served as  Trustee in Metropolitan church for many years. He was fluent in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi. In those was the very famous orator. Although he was not in the teaching profession, he was known as Devasia Sir.  Mikhael Devasia was a philosopher dressed in maroon colour clothes for many years in his life and was having a long beard. His personality had a resemblance of ancient Sadhu of India. In precise Mikhael, Devasia was a man of high calibre.

Mikhael Devasia summarised his life and said “ Mankind must follow natural life ie married life or lead monk life in a monastery. Whoever leads a life different from this, will have to lead a  disgruntled life in old age  “.  He expired on 11 August 1952 at the age of eighty years and buried in Changanacherry Metropolitan church cemetery.
