He was the youngest son of Mikhael Pothen born in the year 1892. He married  Marykutty of Puthuppally family of Changanacherry.He was known as Appisar . He could not complete  matriculation due to various reasons.But he was proficient in English Language; so he was selected in Army and participated in first World War 1914.-17.He served at Messopottomiya as a civilian clerk.On return from Messopottomiya he stated his livelihood as a stage actor.He too was an artist like his brother O P Pothen.Fr Purakan Principal of S B College appointed him as a librarian.During his service at SB College he exhibited his acting talents and  formed an  amateur drama group at S B College with some professors and students.They staged one of the famous dramas of Shakespeare at S B College.He acted in this drama and  great apapareciation was showered on him by the audience.

In those days he was  the narrator when silent movies were screened.Prof. Ulahannan Mappilai once commented about this and said  “ In my knowledge,O P Sir is the only person in South India who knows many languages and has such a good reading habit “.He had translated Tamil religion book “ Thembavani “ in Malayalam.

He took part in second World War in the year 1941.He retired from Arm as Sar grade and earned disability pension from military service. He was awarded with five acres of land for military service and five acres for awarding imprisonment. But he rejected the offer of  Government’s ten acres of land.He expired on 19 October 1966.

His wife Mariyakutty  joined in state congress  on the instruction of Mrs Akkamma Cherian and took part in many agitations against government  together with her husband O P Joseph  and delivered public speeches at various places of Kerala .State police arrested them and  awarded imprisonment.She served as the President of social welfare, YWCA ,Beggar  Relief Association etc.She expired on 08 April 1984.
