Son of Chandy Geevarghese and Mariyamma

While studying in SB High school, he was actively involved in various cultural activities and stage performance. Many time, he acted in school dramas. He participated in song and elocution competitions.

He proceeded to his mother’s house in Alleppey and during his stay there, he had an opportunity to become close to certain business men who had business connections in Bombay. He then proceeded to Bombay in a cargo ship to get an awareness of business there. He then returned home and went to Bombay again to work as an agent of certain banker in Alleppey who had business in Bombay.

He soon started marketing rubber, tea etc of Travancore Merchants in Bombay and also Mathew was entrusted the agency for sale of creep sole in Bombay.

While in Bombay, he married Mariyamma of Kochu Palathinkal, Pulincunnu. Soon he was appointed Asst. Manager of A.V. Thomas and company in Alleppey and then he was appointed chief of this company in its branch at Kottayam. He worked in this job for 30 years. He then left this job and started a business of his own for the sale of rubber, tea, coffee etc and then he started O.V. Mathew and Company and expanded his business.

Mathew worked along with Carmalite Priests, when Deepika Newspaper started in 1939.

He served for 10 years for Kottayam Merchants Association. In between he was president of Changanacherry Merchants Association.

He erected a part and Garden by his own for beautifying Kottayam District Hospital and donated these to the hospital.

He was closely associated with eminent personalities – A.V. Thomas, A.V. George. His friends circle included K.C. Mammen Mappila, T.J. Mathew Thelliyil, Bishop Mar Choolaparambil, Judges, Collectors etc.

Also he had close connections with Chev. Thariyattu Kunjithomman, Joseph Chazhikad, N.V. Joseph BABL, Thomas Chandy.

He organized a meeting in his house to felicitate Diwan Unnithan after Sir C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer left Travancore. This was attended by K.C. Mammen Mappila, T.J. Mathew etc.

He left Kottayam in 1965 to stay in his home town Changanacherry. He died on 21^st June 1967.
