Thomas born in 1885 after Chandy’s birth , was grown as an energetic, studious child. He was a talented singer liked by all elders. He was a strongly built boy with a pleasing character. His parents had foreseen a priest in him which came true . After 4 years of Malayalam education, he joined SB High School for English education. On completion of studies here, he joined Puthenpally seminary in 1904 for his priesthood studies. His singing had an ear catching impact which made him popular in seminary. He was ordained in 1912 and the event was held in a big way by his elder two brothers making the occasion grand. In those days, there was a custom that newly ordained priest was presented with gold rings to be worn on the fingers and Rev Fr Thomas received 129 such gold rings as gift from his relatives.. This was a sign of love, affection and respect his relatives had in him. He was posted in Champakulam parish by Bishop Kurialaserry. When Bishop Kurialaserry had to visit Rome, he desired that Fr Thomas may accompany him. But due to some reasons this proposal was dropped and instead, Mambalath Koshy BALT who wished to become a priest was selected so that he could do studies in Rome. Fr Thomas was there to see them off on their voyage to Rome from Kulambu, Kodula.. Fr Thomas then came back to Champakulam parish and started engaging in parish activities.. But one morning he developed fever and chest pain. He was then brought to Changanacherry church, but he soon developed cerebral hemorrhage which proved fatal and he expired in 1914when he was only 29 years old.. He was buried in Changanacherry cathedral church cemetery. | |
