Kuruvilla Pothen was the younger brother of Kuruvilla Kochandy. He was in-charge of the godown near the market where pepper and salt were stored. The name of his appointment was ‘Kurumulaku Madiseela Karyakkaran’. After the appointment of Kuruvilla Kochandy as Treasurer. The duty of Kuruvilla Pothen was limited as in-charge of the godown.

There is a story behind the appointment of  Kuruvilla Pothen as ‘Kurumulaku Madiseela Karyakkaran’. During that period there was black marketing of Tobacco in Changanacherry. Government officials from Kollam who came to Changanacherry to enquire about the black marketing soon returned. Kuruvilla Pothen went to the spot to get the information. Unfortunately the officials considered him also as guilty and all were asked to report at Thiruvananthapuram. Kuruvilla Pothen accompanied others and reached there. When the report came before the officials, his name was not seen.

The case was adjourned and hence everyone had to stay back in Thiruvananthapuram. Kuruvilla Pothen also stayed back for few days and then returned home. His father scolded him a lot for that and asked him whether he stayed back in Thiruvananthapuram for receiving the appointment order of ‘Kurumulaku Madiseela Karyakkaran’. Kuruvilla Pothen then showed his father the order and his father became happy.

Pothen Kuruvilla, his father, constructed a house near the godown for his son Kuruvilla Pothen. The fourth generation of Olassa Family later sold this property. The dates of birth and death of Kuruvilla Pothen are not known. But it is presumed that he lived between AD 1810 and 1840.
