  Kuruvillachen, the eldest son of Late O. C. Jospeh and Late Mariamma was born on April 11th 1911. 

He had his schooling from Changancherry Govt school, St. Thomas School Pala, SB High School, Changancherry. He passed BA (Botany) from S.B. College,which was then  under Madras University. He secured 2nd rank in Madras University for BA.  He took M.Sc from University College, Trivandrum.  He was a lover of football and was captain of SB college football team. He married Marykutty of Tharakam Poovathukaram family in 1938. After BA, he taught English in SB College for one year. Then he taught in SB High School for two years. During that time Mar Antony, Padiyara and Mar Sebastian Vallopally were his students. Then he taught Botany in SB College.

He was a good organizer and speaker. Drama was his passion. He used to paint himself the stage curtains. He wrote and published 8 books and the pictures in those books were his own drawing. He had established Felcia Sales Depot and set up Joice & Laila and  Shany Brothers publishing houses. He worked as professor in KE College, Mannanam for one year, then returned to SB College as Professor and retired from there. He soon fell sick and passed away on 22nd June 1971. His wife Marykutty expired on 28th February 2002.

He was a lover of nature. He planted trees in SB College, Municipal Office, and Railway Park. He was Municipal Councilor for a long period and was Municipal Chairman for one year. He resigned from this post to give way to P.P.Jose, whose mother was from Olassa family. His notable contributions as Municipal Chairman were LIC aided water supply scheme, erecting tubelights in important roads in Fathimapuram, Bishop’s Colony, Railway Park, Poovakkathuchira renovation etc. He set up Lions Club in Changanacherry and was its Charter President. He was the Patron of Jaycee’s club. He also constructed a waiting shed near railway station on Vazhoor Road by his own. O. J. Kuruvilla memorial X-ray plant in Govt. Hospital stands as a tribute to him. His other notable contribution was building church and Parish Hall in Fathimapuram. He was one of the founders of YMCA and Parel Church.

He had eight children:
